HIKING to SAN BERNARDINO PEAK from ANGELUS OAKS + Biblical Inspiration

For everyone who asks receiveshe who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
Luke 11.10
STARTING the HIKE AT 5:30am about 16 -19 miles ( 8 miles each way)
almost right away there are spectacular views
. “One day’s exposure to mountains is better than a cartload of books.”
 (John Muir)

somebody nailed a cross to a tree and a Christian message under it

pretty quickly you get to the official "wilderness" boundary

the views SPEAK for THEMSELVES,
 nothing i can add

after a while you come to a "meadow" of sorts..

the first "junction" before  LIMBER PINE ..a few alternatives

there was also this old wheel barrow bolted down

“Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God haspromised to
those who love Him.

LIMBER PINE CAMP is an open area with a few trees, lots of places to set up a tent...and there is a creek about 1/4 mile up the trail...which I used for drinking water (with a filter)...but I wasn't camping..this was a DAY HIKE for me..had to keep going (overnight hikes require permits)

“We wait for the blessed hope of the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.

HERE's the CREEK where I used my new "life straw" and had several cups of cold water, so good ! Definitely worth $17 , see

“God's voice thunders in marvelous ways;
He does great things beyond our understanding.”

first view of BIG BEAR LAKE wow...!

“For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.”

and there is this: "Washington Momument" about a half-mile before the peak ..this is the plaque..there's actually a ROCK PILE a little higher up where some monument apparently used to be

“Thanks be to Godwho always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through usspreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him.

and there were a FEW PATCHES of SNOW near the peak in mid-May

MADE IT !!!

I HAD THE PEAK all to myself for about 15 minutes...then I heard voices ...and decided to leave..start the 8 miles back

BIG BEAR LAKE

“In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”

SNOWBALL !

“Rejoice in the LORD, ... and praise
His holy name.”

“God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”

“Going to the mountains
is going home.”
JOHN MUIR

GOING BACK i took the time to see the PILE OF ROCKS that marks Washington Monument

"The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."

"For he has rescued us from the dominion ofdarkness and brought us into
the kingdom of the Son he loves..."
“The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.”
JOHN MUIR

"Now to Him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ... to the only wise God be glory
forever through Jesus Christ! Amen."

“I never saw a discontented tree.”
John Muir

the trail, while LONGER than other 6-pack trails, is relatively easygoing...NOT as steep as some of the others

you can see HOW THE WIND shapes some of the trees such as this one...ALL THE BRANCHES facing east...but there was NOT much wind today..and the weather was mild..nice for hiking

back at the wilderness boundary..the hike back SEEMED TO TAKE FOREVER

I SAW this little red-&-white snake along the way...did a google search..maybe a "milk snake", or maybe a "California Mountain Kingsnake" ? ....found a video that seemed to match what I saw...says it is a "rare" snake  (really?) , see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6zapeNnHLI
another sign dedicated to Colonel Henry Washington (surveyor, 1852) ...imagine bushwacking your way up this mountain without a trail..
back at the trailhead parking lot

"Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to rescue us
from the present evil age..."
Galatians 1:3-4
